Tux And Barrels

Description:
Screamcast's first project was the graphics for this game. I teamed up with programmer Lucius (formerly Bombshell) on this quirky Donkey Kong parody which features Linux hero Tux the Penguin squaring off against a decidedly ape-like Bill Gates (personally, I like Bill, but Lucious is a Linux fanboy and I have to admit his joke does carry out nicely). The buggy but enjoyable demo has three broken but playable levels - it's more of a learning experience/proof-of-concept than a competent clone. This parody is not in any way licensed or endorsed by Nintendo, but we here at Screamcast do love them very much. - Austin

Progress/Version:
The most recent update is Unofficial 0.2.1 Final. The project is on hold indefinitely at the discretion of Lucious. Because the source code is lost, further updates are highly unlikely, which is why I consider it the final version.

The Easter Egg Beta (0.1.2), released Easter 2003, was the first playable release. The subsequent unofficial releases, were cosmetic updates put out by Austin. Versions 0.2 and 0.2.1 fixed a number of graphics bugs, relating to sprites, fontset, and GUI. These retained the same code (and program bugs) as the Easter Egg Beta.

During the development of Tux And Barrels, Lucious recruited electronic composer CorticalStim to create a game soundtrack. Due to format difficulties and the loss of the source code, the soundtrack was never used. Sad, really, because it's fantastic. In fact, if I can contact him for permission, it may find its way into another Screamcast release. The mp3 soundtrack can be downloaded below as a single zipfile.
